Mood Fabric Feature: In the Mood for Summer Dresses

Updated: Nov 5, 2021

Hello Gems! June's Mood Fabric looks featuring three beautiful Mood Exclusive fabric selections is really setting the mood for summer! Temperatures have warmed up summer fun is in full swing. From fun and flirty, simply chic to boho sultry, whatever the summer brings Im sew ready!

For my first look I used Mood’s Exclusive Scarlet Greenhouse Gala Sustainable Viscose Woven fabric. I love creating with viscose fabric. The Scarlet greenhouse fabric is light weight and has a beautiful drape which makes it a perfect fabric for a fun and flirty summer look!

I used McCalls Pattern 8195 as the base of this look. I only made a few additions and changes to this pattern. I created a layered flounce skirt to give this dress more movement and added a halter strap on the bodice.

The print on this fabric is so vibrant and bright its almost impossible not to have fun in this dress! I styled this dress in a pair of lace up sandals with gold accessories. I’m loving the way this piece turned out and can’t wait to take it for a spin.

My second look I chose Moods Exclusive Distorted Dimensions Cotton Voile! Voile is one of my favorite fabrics to work with this time of year. It’s lightweight, airy, breathable and has a soft hand. It’s the perfect fabric for summer looks.

This bold print has a rich neutral color combination and lends a chic and classy feel to this to this look. I kept the design simple on this piece and drafted a one shoulder sundress that ties at the shoulder. I created tiered ruffled layers to give this dress more volume.

I absolutely adore these abstract and portrait inspired prints that Mood offers in their Exclusive line. They are so refreshing and beautiful. This look came together beautifully! I styled this piece with a pair of tan chunky sandals and gold accessories to compliment the gorgeously rich tones in this dress. It truly is simply chic!

This third look is giving me all sorts of sultry vibes! Mood’s Exclusive Festive Floromancy Viscose Crepe fabric is an amazing fabric. Firstly, it's a viscose crepe which is a great combination. The fabric is lightweight, airy, has a great drape to it, and feels so good against the skin. The print is a warm take on summer's orange and pink color combo in burnt orange and magenta tones! This range of color sets a deep and rich mood! Such a captivating combo!

Originally, I had another plans for this fabric but I was taken by Mood fabrics Clementine pattern when it was released, so I decided this fabric would be perfect to create the free Mood Clementine Pattern. This pattern is a one shoulder dress with a side cut out. This look is so on trend and has a boho vibe to it which I love.

It’s a quick make, creating a gathered one shoulder top that connects to the skirt at the waist seam on one side. I didn’t make any changes to the original pattern however, I did decide to add a couple of accents to personalize this look. If you follow me on instagram and some of my previous looks you will know I love a great tie detail so, I added ties at the shoulder, sleeve hem and an extra long tie at the waist seam. I also added a ruffled tier to the hem of the skirt.

These little details added a little more spice to this already saucy look and I adore the way it turned out. This pattern is great for beginners, intermediate and advanced sewers who are looking for a quick and stylish piece to add to their wardrobe! I’ve already started planning my next Clementine inspired look!

Until Next time!
